Air pollution is the most harmful in Philadelphia. Studies shoe that air pollution mostly affects those under 18 and older than 65. Over 280 people are hospitalized each year.

What Causes Air Pollution in Cities?

Air pollution is caused by particles and gasses from vehicular exhaust, factories, and dust being trapped in the air.

How Can We Decrease Air Pollution?

Reduce the amount of trips you take in your personal vehicle by walking, carpooling, or using public transportation. Use environmentally safe paints and household cleaning supplies.

Refrain from burning trash or other materials containing toxins.

Philadelphia’s Air Pollution Control Board

Board members speak to the Department of Public Health concerning air quality issues, encouraging regulations to sustain a healthy air quality.
