Member Receives Selective Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

Azurai Thompson, 18, and now freshman at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia is a 2012 recipient of the highly selective Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship. The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides a multi-faceted experience designed to not only address the financial needs of minority students who aspire to attend college but also to guide them through the process of higher education, molding them into dynamic leaders with a commitment to public service and Jackie Robinson’s humanitarian ideals. In addition to the Jackie Robinson Scholarship, Azurai received a Ronald Mcdonald Scholarship and Ryan Howard Foundation Scholarship.

In high school, at the Springside School she served as the vice president of the CAFE (Cultural Awareness for Everyone) board and enrolled in honors and AP courses. Azurai previously participated in City Year as a young hero. During her summers she’s been dedicated to academic and cultural growth she worked with research in the Physician Scientist Training Program at Temple University and Oxbridge Academic Programs in Barcelona, Spain. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling and being active. Azurai believes that children can achieve any goal they desire with proper guidance and leadership.

With Youth Action, she worked as the Co-Director of Junior Youth Action, where she anchors a mentorship and leadership development program for children ages 8-13.
