Youth Action is the proud 2012 recipient of The University of Pennsylvania’s Black Wharton Undergraduate Association’s Gala Exemplary Community Organization Award.

During the Gala, held on March 23^rd, 2012 at the University of Pennsylvania’s Huntsman Building, Youth Action received high praises from guest speakers Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and State Senator Anthony Hardy Williams.

Nutter congratulated Youth Action on their achievements and noted “that community organizations like Youth Action are needed to make Philadelphia a better space  to live for all Philadelphians.”

Remarks by Youth Action’s President Anthony Phillips thanked BWUA and noted how honored the team is to be recognized by their peers for such an award. He expressed “no honor is better than being recognizing by your peers for the outstanding service our organization does in Philadelphia. We work to inspire our peers to serve, so it’s great to be recognized by those we call our peers.”

Launched in 2009, Black Wharton’s Galvanizing Adolescents towards a Legacy of Achievement Award Gala is a Black Wharton annual event that recognizes their institutional commitment to civic engagement and corporate social responsibility.

“Each year, BWUA honors one local organization whose exemplary work supports, uplifts, and inspires members of our Philadelphia community. This year, BWUA honored Youth Action’s community service to motivating and uplifting the achievement of African American youth.  This event kicked off a year long community service commitment between Youth Action & BWUA in increasing the awareness and progress of Philadelphia youth. It was an evening of fellowship and celebration; that featured live vocal and jazz performances, a delicious three course dinner, and motivational remarks by Pennsylvania State Senator Anthony H. Williams and Mayor Michael Nutter” as found on the Black Wharton Association’s website.

Youth Action is looking forward to commencing it’s service partnership with Black Wharton and is incredibly thankful for their trust and confidence in the team’s mission.
