Haverford College's Black Student League to Host a Fundraiser Fashion Show for Youth Action

The Haverford College Black Student League recently announced their plans to donate a segment of proceeds raised from their Culture Shock Fashion Show this weekend to Youth Action.  Haverford College’s Black Student League has collaborated with Youth Action in the past through our A-List Network program which seeks to strengthen intercollegiate service and event collaborations between Black students at Philadelphia colleges and universities.  Their gift will go directly towards funding for Youth Action’s upcoming education project focused on college readiness.

“We at Youth Action are incredibly thankful that Haverford’s Black Student League considered us as their charity of choice for this event. They are a dynamic student group. It’s truly awesome to know that other Black student organizations in the city value the service work Youth Action does in Philadelphia” says Youth Action President Anthony Phillips.

Youth Action would like to sincerely thank Haverford’s BSL for their generosity. The team is looking forward to future collaborations with their organization. YA is encouraging everyone to attend this event!

Culture Shock will showcase the beauty of African art through clothing design as well as performances. This fashion show will be held on Friday, November 18th, 2011 at Haverford College located on 370 Lancaster Avenue,  Haverford, PA 19041 in the Founders Great Hall from 8-1opm. Admission is $5. It is a charity event, to be dedicated to a youth-led service non-profit Youth Action in Philadelphia and the Street Academy in Accra, Ghana. The show hopes to represent as many elements of Black artistic culture as we can in our show, including African, Caribbean and American styles. One of the adult designers that will be sponsoring part of the show is providing clothing that is a fusion of African and American styles. She seamlessly joins African fabric with other cloths, as a presentation of modern African clothing. The other adult designer is from Jamaica and will be showcasing the slightly provocative elements of Caribbean fashion. The show will be presenting clothing that embodies the urban and professional culture of Blacks.

The Fashion Show is open to all colleges in the Philadelphia area and the community.

**Admission: $5

(for non-TRI-co students)
