Youth Action Announces its Orientation Meeting for Students in
Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, PA – (September 13, 2011) – Youth Action (YA) is excited to invite high school and college students from Philadelphia and surrounding areas to join them for their Orientation Meeting to commence the 2011-2012 Service Year. The Orientation Meeting will be held on Saturday, September 24th, 2011 at the University of Pennsylvania’s Houston Hall building, in the Benjamin Franklin room, located on 3417 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. The meeting will formally introduce students to the team as a member.
Youth Action is a youth-led community development non-profit organization dedicated to promoting youth advocacy, youth leadership and youth empowerment through education and civic engagement. Solely operated by high school and college students in Philadelphia, Youth Action works to empower young African Americans to become socially, economically, and civically aware. Through organizing innovative, youth-captivating service events, we can challenge our peers to become agents of social change in their communities.
“What makes our team different from many other service non-profits is that we are a youth-led service team; all meetings, events, volunteer and service projects are facilitated and conducted by high school and college students, explains President Anthony Phillips. “Therefore, WE serve as the catalysts for change in the city of Philadelphia.”
The Orientation Meeting set to kick off on the 24th will begin promptly at 10:00am. The meeting is designed to be entertaining, engaging and informative while providing a comprehensive overview of the organization and the 2011-2012 Service Year. There, students will have the opportunity to learn more about Youth Action, participate in planning discussions, join different project committees and meet current members and other incoming Youth Action members. We wish to encourage students to stay following the meeting to observe and participate as a mentor in our Junior Youth Action program from 12:30pm-2:30pm in the same location. Refreshments will be served.
