Two Springside School Seniors to Head JYA program this fall

Youth Action is pleased to announce that Springside School seniors Iyannah Mckendrick and Azurai Thompson
will Co-Direct their Junior Youth Action program this fall.

During the next few months they will shadow JYA’s current Director Aja Thornton who recently graduated from the Friends’ Central School and will be attending the University of Southern California (USC) this spring to study communications.

Team President Anthony Phillips states, “it is quite sad to see Aja leave. She was one of the architects of the JYA program/curriculum and she will be greatly missed by her peers in YA and the JYA students. We thank her tremendously for her phenomenal work. She’s awesome.  Both Iyannah and Azurai are excellent students who work really well with children. They are a lot of fun, very creative, intelligent, and have great time management skills. These gifts will come in handy as they work to coordinate excellent service and leadership development programming for JYA participants. I’m confident they will continue to enhance the program.”

Junior Youth Action is a mentorship and leadership development program led by Youth Action members and designed to develop young leaders of tomorrow. Our program offers the perfect opportunity for elementary and middle school students to mature intellectually, improve their leadership skills, enhance their knowledge of black history, and expose them to the importance of volunteerism.
