Ann C. Phillips Scholarship Fund Application Now Open

Youth Action Announces the Ann C. Phillips Scholarship Fund

Thanks to donations from Youth Action members, allies, and supporters, five high school graduates will receive the Ann C. Phillips Scholarship. Each student selected will receive $1,000 from the Ann C. Phillips Scholarship Fund. Youth Action members and Allies established the Ann C. Phillips Scholarship Fund to commemorate the life and legacy of Ann Phillips. The beloved friend and Youth Action Ally will always be remembered for longtime contributions, support, passion, and dedication and professional guidance.

This $5,000 scholarship fund will recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding academic, leadership, service and extracurricular achievements. Scholarships also recognize financial need, programs of study and other accomplishments. It is the first such scholarship honoring a Youth Action Ally member.

All scholarship recipients will exemplify the spirit of servant leadership, selflessness, altruism and pursuit of excellence in their academic endeavors and extracurricular activities. The primary criteria for scholarship selection will be a candidate’s demonstrated leadership performance and potential, as well as a strong commitment to serve in their communities. Candidates are required to be graduating high school seniors, be of good moral character, exhibit academic achievement, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Candidates must have received an acceptance to an accredited, degree-granting two-to-four year college or university, or trade school at the time of application.

“Youth Action is very excited about beginning this new scholarship fund,” says Youth Action Senior Advisor, Linda Lewis. “The scholarship fund advances Youth Action’s goal to promote excellence in education while maintaining an unrelenting commitment to serving the community.”

With each scholarship presented, Youth Action will publicly affirm present achievements and seek to encourage further work on the part of the recipients. Thus, Youth Action hopes that this will motivate others to follow their lead in service to their communities.

To be considered for the 2011-2012 academic year, interested applicants must apply for the Ann C. Phillips scholarship by Monday, August 1st, 2011.
