A Message From our Executive Director

Philadelphia is a city that is rich in resilience despite the challenges of poverty and limited resources. It's a city that is rich with culture and history, but is often categorized and seen as a city of high crime, violence, and challenges. But at Youth Action, we've witnessed the transformative power of young people when they are equipped with the tools to inspire, lead, and serve.

It's this experience as a native Philadelphian coupled with my passion for community service and empowering young people that brought me back to Youth Action—an organization that believes in the power and abilities of young people.

For over 20 years, our mission has been simple yet powerful: to INSPIRE students to LEAD and provide them with the resources and support to SERVE their communities. We believe that when young people are given the platform to lead and serve, they don’t just change their own lives—they change the lives of those around them.

We develop Greater Philadelphia youth into socially responsible leaders who create meaningful change in their communities. From crafting impactful service projects to running their own initiatives, our students show us every day what is possible when passion meets opportunity.

This work is deeply rooted in our humble beginnings as a student-led, volunteer-driven organization. That foundation of dedication and love for Philadelphia has carried us through decades of growth and challenges, including the rebuilding efforts following the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, we remain committed to honoring those beginnings while preparing for what’s next.

Over the past two decades, our students have acheived notable results:

100%

Recent graduates continued on to college

5000

Peers engaged in civic action

375

Service projects completed

These successes are a testament to what happens when young people are given the opportunity to lead and serve their communities.

As we look to the future, we will remain rooted in our core pillars: Inspire. Lead. Serve. These values are evident in every volunteer, board member, donor, and student leader who contributes to this work. Together, we can continue to shape a brighter future for Philadelphia and beyond.

Thank you for your belief in our mission and your commitment to the next generation of changemakers.

-Kiyana Neil, Executive Director
