This MLK Day, Youth Action was proud to bring back our student-led MLK Day of Service, gathering our student leaders, staff, volunteers, and community members to Meet the Moment and Stand Up for Children and Families.
On a cold, snowy morning, volunteers from across Philadelphia came together not just to serve, but to reflect on one of Dr. King’s core values: community. As an organization committed to inspiring, mentoring, and developing young leaders, we know that dignity, stability, and basic needs are foundational for youth success. We also know that when we support families, we strengthen entire communities.
This year, we were honored to partner with two organizations doing critical frontline work:
Eddie’s House supports youth and families through housing, food access, crisis care, and safe spaces to grow. From housing to healing, Eddie’s House helps create fresh starts and lasting change.
Chosen 300 Ministries unites people across backgrounds and beliefs to serve the common good, distributing meals and services to unhoused communities throughout Philadelphia and beyond.
After opening reflections and a community-building challenge led by our corporate sponsor, Harmelin Media, volunteers rotated through four service stations:
- Assembling Play Packs for children
- Packing Hygiene Kits for youth and families
- Creating Winter Care Packages for unhoused community members
- Writing Greeting Cards to include in every package
By the end of the day, we donated over 450 care packages to our partner organizations to support community members across the city.
We are deeply grateful to our students, partners, volunteers, and sponsors for making this day meaningful and impactful. And this is just the beginning. At Youth Action, we equip Philadelphia youth with leadership skills, mentorship, and hands-on civic service opportunities to create positive change in their communities.
