Youth Action Hosts it's 3rd
Annual Basketball Game
PHILADELPHIA, PA Youth Action has collaborated with
athletes from the School District of Philadelphia’s
public and charter high schools to host its 3rd Annual
Basketball Game to raise public awareness about health
issues affecting the African American community. This
event will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 1:00
p.m. at Simon Gratz High School, 1798 W. Hunting Park
Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19140. General admission is
$7.00 and Youth Action encourages EVERYONE to come out
for a day of fun, education and entertainment. The event
also coincides with Youth Action’s yearlong service to
inform city residents about health issues affecting
their communities.
Youth Action is a not-for-profit community
organization founded in 2003 by alumni of the Tavis
Smiley Foundation and consists of young African American
teens and young adults aspiring for positive change in
their communities. What sets Youth Action apart from
many other community organizations is that aside from a
handful of adults who are involved, high school and
college students solely run the organization. These
ambitious and dynamic youth are committed to making an
effective change in their communities. Youth Action's
mission is to maintain an effective youth-based program
that strives to solve major issues that plague youth
throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. Youth
Action's main focus is to aid in the qualities it
believes• are essential to leading humane and productive

The Tavis Smiley
Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999
by media personality Tavis Smiley to enlighten,
encourage, and empower youth by providing leadership
skills that will promote and enhance the quality of life
for their lives, their community and the world. Since
its inception, more than 5,500 youth have participated
in the foundation's leadership workshops and
